Internship #3

In my internship project I would like to develop my problem solving skills, and writing skills, and I believe that our proposed project would allow me to do that. I already began working on what could possibly be my project. Everything in the courtroom is measured in terms of money, and how much ___ is worth. For my project I am assisting some of the lawyers with two cases, by determining how much money their clients might have to pay to compensate for plaintiffs' losses. It would be easy, but both of the cases involve either loss of enjoyment of life, or wrongful death. How do you put a dollar value on the life of a spouse, or family member? How has the court dealt with cases like this in the past? How much money would you take to be quadriplegic for the rest of your life? I will be researching all of those things, and attempting to put a value on lives.

After just a couple days I learned how difficult and extensive legal research can be. I've been trying to use a database that law school students use. As it turns out, students take entire classes on how to do legal research, so it's really difficult for me to do. But with everyone's help, I'll be able to figure it all out.
